TOWER HANDCUFFS W/ STOP LEVERS 1880'S
For sale a very rare handcuff, Tower's Double Locking Handcuffs with Patented Stops with original key.
During the later part of the 1800's the race was on to invent a handcuff that could be carried in the Policeman's pocket in an unlocked position thus making applying the restraints to a prisoner quicker and leaving the officer more protected during that operation. One of the first and very successful was the Bean Cobb handcuff patent.
The largest manufacturer of handcuffs, Tower had to come up with something and what they came up with was a type of spring-loaded levers that would prevent the bows from closing into the cuff until depressed by the officer. This idea while good on paper was not greatly adopted by the forces and most of the irons would have the springs broken off by the officers. Not too many of these survive complete with both springs intact. This pair is complete and in perfect working condition. It is also in the earlier 3-link model.
- The Handcuff retains approx. 98% of its original nickel plating
- The Handcuff comes with an original key
- The Handcuff is in excellent mechanical condition and both springs are complete.
