This is an extremely rare example of US handcuff history. This is the Adams handcuff and is the first adjustable handcuff ever patented under the US Patent system in 1862.

This model is the pat applied for version which is characterized by the high number of notches in the bows. The later patented model would have much fewer.

This rare civil war handcuff shows age and patina, it does not have a key.
