ADAMS LEG IRONS CIVIL WAR 1862
The Adams handcuff is the 1st adjustable handcuff patented in the United States 1862. It was made with several variations including the different number of ratchet cuts in the bow determining how adjustable it would be, also variations in linkage connecting both sides of the cuffs and even a few all brass models made specifically for maritime use.
While the Adams handcuff in itself is a rare and desirable collectible handcuff there exists in incredibly small number (believed to be less than 10 pairs known) of Adams Leg Iron and most of them are incomplete as the long bow would often break off during use. This pair is complete however it is in a rusted condition.
